The countries of Sub-Saharan Africa are growing in importance as a market for US goods and as importers from Asia, on top of their traditional links with Europe. At this luncheon you will gain insight into their current economies, future expectations, political situation, key industries, ease of doing business, and more! 

Keynote Speaker: Mr Chris Tomes, Associate of Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK)

Chris is Regional Head, International Financial Institutions at Absa Bank, Johannesburg. In addition to Barclays Bank, London, Chris has responsibility for North America, Canada, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.

During a 32 year career with Barclays, in the UK, Chris has held various roles in Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Regional Office, Institutional Banking, Barclaycard, Head Office Central Planning, and on the panel of Corporate Lending Group Leaders. The past 2 years Chris has been on assignment in South Africa. Chris is on the International Financial Services Association’s panel of speakers and is a member of its annual conference committee.

Prior to leaving the UK for South Africa, Chris was based in the Financial Services Team at Barclays’ Global Headquarters in London, England. He joined Barclays in 1976 straight from school where he was educated in Classical Greek and Latin.
