About the Trader of the Year
The Trader of the Year awards recognize Washington companies that have contributed to the expansion of Washington State’s international trade through demonstrated success, industry leadership, innovation, and service to the community. In appreciation of the fact that business excellence comes in a variety of forms, the emerging trader of the year award specifically recognizes small to mid-size Washington State businesses for their contributions to the economy of Washington State.

Keynote Speaker - John Melin, President & Chief Operating Officer of Brown & Haley
John joined Brown & Haley in August 2003, and provides leadership to daily operations and guidance for long term strategy.  During his tenure he has made major contributions to product development, capacity increases, profit improvement, and sales efforts.  He has played a critical role directing the company’s successful growth of ALMOND ROCA® internationally, with a particular focus on China. Prior to Brown & Haley, John spent 4 years with Coinstar where he built Coinstar’s international business, and 8 years at McKinsey and Company, where he served clients in a number of industries including retail, media, and natural resources.
John holds M.Sc. and M.A. degrees in Economics and Politics from Oxford University, and a B.Sc. in Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. He lives in Seattle with his wife, Pam, and two children.  His pastimes include exploring Northwest wineries, coaching youth lacrosse, skiing with his family, and playing tennis and hockey.

The audience typically consists of professionals, representing international business, federal and state government, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, and others interesting in engaging in the international business community in Washington State.
